Farebook Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes the policies and procedures followed by FareBook Technologies Private Limited (“FareBook”) on the collection, use, and disclosure of your information when you use the FareBook Service, via the FareBook website, your mobile phone, or through one of FareBook’s applications for mobile devices (including but not limited to iOS/Android applications). We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
The terms “we”, “us”, or “our website” refer to www.farebook.co, while the terms “you” or “your” refers to you, as a user of the FareBook platform. The term “Personal Information” means information that you provide to us which personally identifies you to be contacted or identified, such as your name, phone number, email address, and any other data that is tied to such information.
This Privacy Policy is applicable to any person (‘User’) who purchases, intends to purchase, or inquire about any product(s) or service(s) made available by FareBook through any of FareBook’s customer interface channels including its website, mobile site, mobile application, and offline channels including call centers and offices (individually or collectively referred herein as “Platform”).
By using or accessing the Platform, the User hereby agrees with the terms of this Privacy Policy and the contents herein. If you disagree with this Privacy Policy please do not use or access the Platform.
User should take note that information and privacy practices of FareBook’s business partners, advertisers, sponsors, or other sites to which FareBook provides hyperlink(s), may be materially different from this Privacy Policy and will be applicable to the User in addition to this Privacy Policy. Accordingly, it is recommended that you review the privacy statements and policies of any such third parties with whom you interact in addition to this Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy is an integral part of your User Agreement with FareBook and all capitalised terms used, but not otherwise defined herein, shall have the respective meanings as ascribed to them in the User Agreement.
- Type of information We collect for legal basis
The information as detailed below is collected by us to be able to provide the services chosen by you and also to fulfill our legal obligations as well as our obligations towards third parties as per our Terms of Use.
Personal Information of the User shall include the information shared by the User and collected by us for the following purposes:
Registration on the Website:
Information which you provide while subscribing to or registering on the Website, including but not limited to information about your personal identity such as name, gender, marital status, religion, age, date of birth, passport details, profile picture, etc. and your contact details such as your email address, postal addresses, frequent flyer number, telephone (mobile or otherwise) and/or fax numbers. The information may also include information such as your banking details (including credit/debit card) and any other information relating to your income and/or lifestyle, billing information, payment history, tax information etc. (as shared by you).
Other information:We may also collect some other information and documents including but not limited to:
Transactional history (other than banking details) about your e-commerce activities and buying behaviour.
Your usernames, passwords, email addresses, and other security-related information used by you in relation to our Services.
Data either created by you or by a third party and which you wish to store on our servers such as image files, documents, etc.
Data available in the public domain or received from any third party including social media channels, including but not limited to personal or non-personal information from your linked social media channels (like name, email address, friend list, profile pictures, or any other information that is permitted to be received as per your account settings) as a part of your account information.
Information pertaining to any other traveler(s) for whom you make a booking through your registered FareBook account. In such case, you must confirm and represent that each of the other traveler(s) for whom a booking has been made, has agreed to have the information shared by you disclosed to us and further be shared by us with the concerned service provider(s).
If you request FareBook to provide visa-related services, then copies of your passport, bank statements, originals of the filled-in application forms, photographs, and any other information which may be required by the respective embassy to process your visa application.
For international bookings, Users, in compliance with the Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS) of RBI or any other law may be required to provide details such as their PAN information or passport details or any such information required by the Service Provider. Such information shall be strictly used as per the aforesaid requirements only. In case a User does not wish to provide this information, FareBook may not be able to process the booking. FareBook will never share User’s PAN details without their prior consent unless otherwise such action is required for providing the services booked or by any law enforcement authority for investigation or by court order or in reference to any legal process.
In case you opt for contactless check-in at Hotels, then copies of your government identification like aadhaar, driving license, election card, etc., Self-declaration, and any other information like date of birth, destination/ origin of travel and place of residence that may be required by the concerned Hotel to honour your hotel booking.
Your Covid-19 vaccination status and certificate in case you wish to avail of any service for provision of which such Covid-19 vaccination related information is required or want to access your vaccination certificate at a later stage for travel related or any other purpose. FareBook will never process the beneficiary id and other id details contained in the vaccination certificate.
We may also use your contact information to send you marketing emails, push notifications, SMS, or IVR calls. If you do not want to receive such communication, you may opt-out by following the instructions in the message or informing us over an email. If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address, and our responses.
If you use your Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking site (“SNS”) account information to sign in to FareBook, we will collect and store your SNS user ID, and other information that you explicitly allow us to access when using an SNS login.
You also provide us with information in the User Content you post to the Service. Your questions, answers, and other contributions on the Service, and metadata about them (such as when you posted them), are publicly viewable on the Service, along with your name (unless the Service permits you to post anonymously). This information may be searched by search engines and be republished elsewhere on the Web in accordance with our Terms of Use.
When you use a debit or credit card or other payment method for your FareBook account, a third party that handles payments for us will receive your card information. To keep your financial data secure, we do not store card information on our servers.
If you choose to use our invitation service to invite a friend to the Service, we will ask you for that person’s email address and automatically send an email invitation. You may also use our contact importer tool to help you upload your friends’ email addresses so you can find friends who are already on FareBook or invite friends to the Service. FareBook stores this information to send invitations, to register your friend if your invitation is accepted, to track the success of our invitation service, and to identify your friends on FareBook.
Such information shall be strictly used for the aforesaid specified and lawful purpose only. User further understands that FareBook may share this information with the end service provider or any other third party for provision and facilitation of the desired booking. FareBook will always redact all/any sensitive and confidential information contained in the vaccination certificate, passbook, bank statement, or any other identity card submitted for the purpose of availing a service, promotional offer, or booking a product on the Website. In case a User does not wish to provide this information or opts for deletion of the information already provided, FareBook may not be able to process the desired booking request. FareBook will never share any of the above information collected including PAN card details, Vaccination status, and certificate, Passport details, Aadhaar Card details without their prior consent unless otherwise such action is required by any law enforcement authority for investigation, by court order, or in reference to any legal process.
Permissions required for using our mobile applications
When the FareBook app is installed on your phone or tablet, a list of permissions appears and is needed for the app to function effectively. There is no option to customize the list. The permissions that FareBook requires and the data that shall be accessed and its use are as below:
Android permissions:
Device & App history:We need your device permission to get information about your device, like OS (operating system) name, OS version, mobile network, hardware model, unique device identifier, preferred language, etc. Basis these inputs, we intend to optimize your travel booking experience, and use OS specific capabilities to drive great in-funnel experiences using components of the device’s OS, etc.
Camera:This permission enables you to use your camera from within the application to upload a new profile picture, upload an image for sharing hotel reviews, and also allows you to take videos to upload as video reviews on our application. This permission will also enable you to scan QR codes for easy UPI payments.
SMS:If you allow us to access your SMS, we read your SMS to autofill or prepopulate ‘OTP’ while making a transaction and to validate your mobile number. This provides you a seamless purchase experience while making a booking and you don’t need to move out of the app to read the SMS and then enter it in the app.
Identity: This permission enables us to know about the details of your account(s) on your mobile device. We use this info to auto-fill your email ID’s and provide a typing-free in-funnel experience. It helps us map email ID’s to a particular user to give you the benefit of exclusive travel offers, wallet cash-backs, etc. It also allows facilitating your Facebook and Google+ login.
Location:This permission enables us to give you the benefit of location specific deals and provide you a personalized in-funnel experience. When you launch the FareBook app to make a travel booking, we auto-detect your location so that your nearest airport or city is auto-filled. We also require this permission to recommend you nearest hotels in case you are running late and want to make a quick last-minute booking for the nearest hotel. Your options are personalized basis your location. For international travel, this enables us to determine your time zone and provide information accordingly
Phone:The app requires access to make phone calls so that you can make phone calls to hotels, airlines, and our customer contact centers directly through the app.
Contacts:If you allow us to access your contacts, it enables us to provide a lot of social features to you such as sharing your hotel/ flight/ holidays with your friends, inviting your friends to try our app, sending referral links to your friends, etc. We will also use this information to make recommendations for hotels where your friends have stayed. This information will be stored on our servers and synced from your phone.
Photo/ Media/ Files: The libraries in the app use these permissions to allow map data to be saved to your phone’s external storage, like SD cards. By saving map data locally, your phone doesn’t need to re-download the same map data every time you use the app. This provides you a seamless Map based Hotel selection experience, even on low bandwidth network.
Wi-Fi connection information:When you allow us the permission to detect your Wi-Fi connection, we optimize your experience such as more detailing on maps, better image loading, more hotel/ flights/ package options to choose from, etc.
Device ID & Call information:This permission is used to detect your Android ID through which we can uniquely identify users. It also lets us know your contact details using which we pre-populate specific fields to ensure a seamless booking experience.
Calendar: This permission enables us to put your travel plan on your calendar.
Bluetooth:This permission enables us to provide you services of the third parties that make available certain features of their products/services on our application. The permission specifically enables our third-party service providers whose services you book on the application to permit you to lock and unlock your self-driven vehicles seamlessly.
Video/Audio:This permission enables you to upload videos on our application or to submit video reviews of your hotel/property stays and thereby providing you with new ways of providing reviews of your experience on our application. The audio permission enables us to ensure that the video content that you upload has a clear audio in its background.
Phone Number:We need permission of access to your phone number to provide a seamless login experience, optimise your travel booking experience and to enable you to obtain UPI services, and to prevent fraud in some cases on our application.
Subscription Information:Your subscription information enables to provide you a seamless experience depending upon your network and to optimise the application’s performance. In addition, this also enables us in providing to you the train status even in an offline mode and additionally even in a no network area you can get fully aware of the status of the train you want to search for.
IOS Permissions:
Notifications:If you opt in for notifications, it enables us to send across exclusive deals, promotional offers, travel related updates, etc. on your device. If you do not opt for this, updates for your travel like PNR status, booking confirmation, refund (in case of cancellation), etc. will be sent through SMS.
Contacts: If you opt in for contacts permission, it enables us to provide a lot of social features to you such as sharing your hotel/ flight/ holidays with your friends, inviting your friends to try our app, send across referral links to your friends, etc. We will also use this information to make recommendations for hotels where your friends have stayed. This information will be stored on our servers and synced from your phone.
Location:This permission enables us to give you the benefit of location specific deals and provide you a personalized in-funnel experience. Information collected automatically
When you use the Service, we use persistent and session cookies and other tracking technologies to: (a) store your username, password, and authentication tokens; (b) analyse the usage of the Service; (c) customize the Service to your preferences; and (d) control the advertising displayed by the Service. A persistent cookie remains on your computer after you close your browser so that it can be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the Service. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Service may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.
We may also use other Internet technologies, log files, clear GIFs, Flash technologies, and other similar technologies, to deliver or communicate with cookies and track your use of the Service. We also may include clear GIFs in HTML-based emails sent to our users to determine whether the message has been opened. As we adopt additional technology, we may also gather additional information through other methods.
We use these automated technologies to collect and analyse certain types of information we consider to be non-personal information, including: (a) information related to the devices you use to access or interact with the Service, such as: IP addresses, geolocation information, unique device identifiers and other information about your mobile phone or other mobile device(s), browser types, browser language; and (b) information related to the ways in which you interact with the Service, such as: referring and exit pages and URLs, platform type, the number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed and the order of those pages, the amount of time spent on particular pages, the date and time you used the Service, and other similar information. We may also capture other data, such as search criteria and results.
FareBook discloses a subset of this automatically collected information publicly. Specifically, you consent to FareBook’s disclosure of information related to the ways in which you interact with the Service, such as: landing pages, pages viewed and the order of those pages (including questions and answers viewed), the date and time you used the Service, and other similar information on the Service to other FareBook users, along with your name and profile picture. If you do not wish to have this information disclosed to the public, you may opt out of this feature.
We may collect different types of information about your location, including general information (e.g., IP address, zip code) and more specific information (e.g., GPS-based functionality on mobile devices used to access the Service), and may use that information to customize the Service with location-based information and features. If you access the Service through a mobile device and you do not want your device to provide us with location-tracking information, you can disable the GPS or other location-tracking functions on your device, provided your device allows you to do this.
FareBook may allow third parties to serve advertisements on the Service and on third-party services and use other third parties to help us collect and analyse information about your use of the service, generate aggregate site usage statistics, and provide content sharing services to support the Service. These third parties may also use cookies and similar technologies to collect similar non-personal information about your use of the Service. FareBook does not control the third parties’ use of such technologies and their use is governed by those parties’ respective privacy policies.
Processing of Personal Information
Please note that the data shared with us shall be primarily processed in India and such other jurisdictions where a third party engaged by us may process the data on our behalf. By agreeing to this policy, you are providing us with your explicit consent to process your personal information for the purpose(s) defined in this policy. The personal data protection regulations in India may differ from those of your country of residence.
If you have any concerns related to the processing of your data and wish to withdraw your consent, you may do so by writing to us at info@farebook.co. However, if such processing of data is essential for us to be able to provide service to you, then we may not be able to serve or confirm your bookings after your withdrawal of consent. For instance, if you want to book any international flight or hotel, or holiday package, then certain personal information of yours like contact details, gender, dietary preferences, choice of room with a smoking facility, any medical condition which may require specific attention or facility etc. may have to be shared by us with relevant third party who would be providing such services to you during your travel/holiday. Such sharing and processing of information may extend to the hotel where you will stay or the tour manager who will be your guide during the travel.
A withdrawal of consent by you for us to process your information may:
severely inhibit our ability to serve you properly and in such case, we may have to refuse the booking altogether, or
unreasonably restrict us to service your booking (if a booking is already made) which may further affect your travel or may compel us to cancel your booking.
How we protect your information
FareBook uses commercially reasonable physical, managerial, and technical safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of your personal information. We cannot, however, ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to FareBook or guarantee that your information on the Service may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.
All payments on the Website are secured. This means all Personal Information you provide is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us.
The website has stringent security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. Whenever you change or access your account information, we offer the use of a secure server. Once your information is in our possession we adhere to strict security guidelines, protecting it against unauthorized access.
In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, FareBook will promptly notify those persons whose personal information has been compromised, in accordance with the notification procedures set forth in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise required by applicable law.
Your choices about your information
You may, of course, decline to submit personally identifiable information through the Service, in which case FareBook may not be able to provide certain services to you. You may update or correct your account information and email preferences at any time by logging into your account. You can always unsubscribe from our commercial or promotional emails, SMS, and notifications but we will still send you transactional and relational emails about your account use of FareBook.
How we use and share personal information:
Personally Identifiable Information: FareBook may share your personally identifiable information with third parties for the purpose of providing the Service to you or with third parties offering combined services with FareBook. If we do this, such third parties’ use of your information will be bound by this Privacy Policy. We may store personal information in locations outside the direct control of FareBook (for instance, on servers or databases co-located with hosting providers).

While making a booking
While making a booking, we may use Personal Information including, payment details which include cardholder name, credit/debit card number (in encrypted form) with expiration date, banking details, wallet details, etc. as shared and allowed to be stored by you. We may also use the information of the travelers list as available in or linked with your account. This information is presented to the User at the time of making a booking to enable you to complete your bookings expeditiously.
We may also use your Personal Information for several reasons including but not limited to:
confirm your reservations with respective service providers;
keep you informed of the transaction status;
send booking confirmations either via SMS, or WhatsApp or any other messaging service;
send any updates or changes to your booking(s);
allow our customer service to contact you, if necessary;
customise the content of our website, mobile site, and mobile app;
request for reviews of products or services or any other improvements;
send verification message(s) or email(s);
validate/authenticate your account and to prevent any misuse or abuse.
contact you on your birthday/anniversary to offer a special gift or offer.
As we develop our business, we may buy or sell assets or business offerings. Customer, email, and visitor information are generally one of the transferred business assets in these types of transactions. We may also transfer or assign such information in the course of corporate divestitures, mergers, amalgamations, or dissolution.
We may share or disclose your information with your consent, such as if you choose to sign on to the Service through a third-party service. We cannot control third parties’ use of your information.
FareBook may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or summon or if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect FareBook’s rights or property.
Non-Personally Identifiable Information: We may aggregate and/or anonymize information collected through the Service so that the information does not identify you. We may use aggregated, anonymized, and other non-personally identifiable information for any purpose, including for research and marketing purposes, and our use and disclosure of such information is not subject to any restrictions under this Privacy Policy.
Surveys: We value opinions and comments from our Users and frequently conduct surveys, both online and offline. Participation in these surveys is entirely optional. Typically, the information received is aggregated, and used to make improvements to Website, other Platform, services and to develop appealing content, features and promotions for members based on the results of the surveys. Identity of the survey participants is anonymous unless otherwise stated in the survey.
Marketing Promotions, Research, and Programs: Marketing promotions, research, and programs help us to identify your preferences, develop programs, and improve user experience. FareBook frequently sponsors promotions to give its Users the opportunity to win great travel and travel related prizes. Personal Information collected by us for such activities may include contact information and survey questions. We use such Personal Information to notify contest winners and survey information to develop promotions and product improvements. As a registered User, you will also occasionally receive updates from us about fare sales in your area, special offers, new FareBook services, other noteworthy items (like savings and benefits on airfares, hotel reservations, holiday packages, car rentals, and other travel services) and marketing programs.
In addition, you may look forward to receiving periodic marketing emails, newsletters, and exclusive promotions offering special deals.
From time to time, we may add or enhance services available on the Website. To the extent these services are provided, and used by you, we will use the Personal Information you provide to facilitate the service(s) requested. For example, if you email us with a question, we will use your email address, name, nature of the question, etc. to respond to your question. We may also store such Personal Information to assist us in making the Website better and easier to use for our Users.
FareBook may from time to time launch reward programs by way of which users may stand to win travel-related rewards or other rewards. We may use your Personal Information to enrol you in the rewards program and status of the same will be visible each time you log in to the Website. Depending on the reward program, each time you win a reward, FareBook may share your Personal Information with a third party that will be responsible for fulfilling the reward to you. You may however choose to opt out of such reward programs by writing to us. For various purposes such as fraud detection, offering bookings on credit, etc., we at times may verify information of customers on a selective basis, including their credit information. Additionally, FareBook may share your Personal Information, anonymized and/ or aggregated data to a third party that FareBook may engage to perform certain tasks on its behalf, including but not limited to payment processing, data hosting, data processing and assessing creditworthiness for offering bookings on credit.
FareBook may allow third-party ad servers or ad networks to serve advertisements on the Service and on third-party services. These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to send, directly to your browser, the advertisements and links that appear on FareBook. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. They may also use other technologies (such as cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons) to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and to personalize the advertising content. FareBook does not provide any personally identifiable information to these third-party ad servers or ad networks without your consent. However, please note that if an advertiser asks FareBook to show an advertisement to a certain audience and you respond to that advertisement, the advertiser or ad server may conclude that you fit the description of the audience they are trying to reach. The FareBook Privacy Policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, third-party advertisers. Please consult the respective privacy policies of such advertisers for more information.
Service Providers and Suppliers: Your information shall be shared with the end service providers like airlines, hotels, bus service providers, cab rental, railways, or any other suppliers who are responsible for fulfilling your booking. You may note that while making a booking with FareBook you authorize us to share your information with the said service providers and suppliers. It is pertinent to note that FareBook does not authorize the end service provider to use your information for any other purpose(s) except as may be for fulfilling their part of service. However, how the said service providers/suppliers use the information shared with them is beyond the purview and control of FareBook as they process Personal Information as independent data controllers, and hence we cannot be made accountable for the same. You are therefore advised to review the privacy policies of the respective service provider or supplier whose services you choose to avail.
FareBook does not sell or rent individual customer names or other Personal Information of Users to third parties except for sharing of such information with our business/alliance partners or vendors who are engaged by us for providing various referral services and for sharing promotional and other benefits to our customers from time to time basis their booking history with us.
Companies in the same group: In the interests of improving personalization and service efficiency, we may, under controlled and secure circumstances, share your Personal Information with our affiliate or associate entities. This will enable us to provide you with information about various products and services, both leisure and travel-related, which might interest you; or help us address your questions and requests in relation to your bookings.
If the assets of FareBook are acquired, our customer information may also be transferred to the acquirer depending upon the nature of such acquisition. In addition, as part of business expansion/development/restructuring or for any other reason whatsoever, if we decide to sell/transfer/assign our business, any part thereof, any of our subsidiaries, or any business units, then as part of such restructuring exercise customer information including the Personal Information collected herein shall be transferred accordingly.
Business partners and third-party vendors: We may also share certain filtered Personal Information with our corporate affiliates or business partners who may contact the customers to offer certain products or services, which may include free or paid products/services, which will enable the customer to have better travel experience or to avail certain benefits specially made for FareBook customers. Examples of such partners are entities offering co-branded credit cards, travel insurance, insurance cover against loss of wallet, banking cards, financial facilities, loans, or similar services, etc. If you choose to avail of any such services offered by our business partners, the services so availed will be governed by the privacy policy of the respective service provider.
FareBook may share your Personal Information to third party that FareBook may engage to perform certain tasks on its behalf, including but not limited to payment processing, data hosting, and data processing platforms.
We use non-identifiable Personal Information of Users in aggregate or anonymized form to build higher quality, more useful online services by performing statistical analysis of the collective characteristics and behaviour of our customers and visitors, and by measuring demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the Website. We may provide anonymous statistical information based on this data to suppliers, advertisers, affiliates, and other current and potential business partners. We may also use such aggregate data to inform these third parties as to the number of people who have seen and clicked on links to their websites. Any Personal Information which we collect and which we may use in an aggregated format is our property. We may use it, in our sole discretion and without any compensation to you, for any legitimate purpose including without limitation the commercial sale thereof to third parties.
Occasionally, FareBook will hire a third party for market research, surveys, etc., and will provide information to these third parties specifically for use in connection with these projects. The information (including aggregate cookie and tracking information) we provide to such third parties, alliance partners, or vendors is protected by confidentiality agreements and such information is to be used solely for completing the specific project, and in compliance with the applicable regulations.
At FareBook, we collaborate and partner with various third parties to provide travel-related services to enhance your customer experience. When we share your information with these third-party service providers, we ensure that they are bound by our privacy policy standards and comply with all applicable data protection laws. These third parties may, from time to time, contact you directly to offer their services, including special offers, promotions, or relevant travel information. The decision to engage with any of these third-party service providers is entirely voluntary and at your discretion. If you choose to avail yourself of their services, please review their privacy policy independently before proceeding with any transactions with them. Your interaction with these third parties is a matter of your own choice.
Disclosure of Information: In addition to the circumstances described above, FareBook may disclose the User’s Personal Information if required to do so:
by law, required by any enforcement authority for investigation, by court order or in reference to any legal process;
to conduct our business;
for regulatory, internal compliance, and audit exercise(s)
to secure our systems; or
to enforce or protect our rights or properties of FareBook or any or all of its affiliates, associates, employees, directors, or officers or when we have reason to believe that disclosing Personal Information of User(s) is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing interference with our rights or properties, whether intentionally or otherwise, or when anyone else could be harmed by such activities.
Such disclosure and storage may take place without your knowledge. In that case, we shall not be liable to you or any third party for any damages howsoever arising from such disclosure and storage.
Your rights related to your Personal Information
